1. Connect the power to the Belkin Extender.
2. Next, return the extender to its factory default settings.
If you just bought this extender, skip to step 3 now.
However, if you purchased a used gadget, you should RESET it just in case the previous owner did not remove their modified settings. Observe the directions in our post on Belkin Wireless Range Extender Reset Instructions.
3. To configure the wireless range extender and continue with Belkin WiFi Extender Setup, log in to it.
Then, look for the "Belkin.setup" wifi network on your PC or mobile device. It was on our iPad Air, as shown in the image below. Once you've done configuring, this access point will no longer be active because it is only active during setup.
Join the Belkin.setup network after that. You won't be requested for a password because it is OPEN. We may easily join it on the iPad Air by tapping it once.
Following successful connection, your computer instantly assumes the range extender's default IP address, which is 192.168.206.2, as shown in the next image. Go to http://belkin.range/ in your web browser if the setting start screen does not show.
On the belkin.range page, click the "Get Started" button. This tells the extender to look for repeatable wireless networks in both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. The "Choose the wireless network you'd like to expand" screen is shown in your browser after a little pause, as shown in the next step.
4. Decide which 5 GHz wireless network you want to expand.
Please take note that your network may be hidden if it does not appear in the list. Press the "I don't see my network here" option in that case, and then follow the on-screen directions to manually enter your network's SSID, security type, and password. Skip to step 5 when that information has been entered.
If your network(s) are physically too far away from this range extender, they could not be shown here. Therefore, their signals can be insufficient. Move the point nearer to your main wireless access point to fix this. The extender will then be forced to re-scan for available networks to extend if you tap or click the "Refresh" button above.
5. Enter the Password for your 5 Ghz. Network
For the 5 GHz wireless network you are expanding, enter your main network password. Warning: Your password will be displayed plainly on this screen as you type it in, so be sure to complete this step in a place where no one will see it except you.
Check your typing for accuracy after you've entered all the password's characters.
6. To continue with Belkin WiFi Extender Setup, choose the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network that you want to extend (if any).
If you input the right password above and the "Checking the password" prompt has cleared, you will then be taken back to the "Choose the wireless network you'd like to expand" screen, as shown in the screen shot below. However, this time, since we've already extended a 5 Ghz wireless network above, the screen only displays the in-range 2.4 Ghz wireless networks. One 2.4 GHz and one 5 GHz network can only be expanded by this range extender at once.
Choose the 2.4 GHz network you want to extend from the list that is displayed by tapping or clicking on it. Following that, you will be asked for its password, as shown next.
7. Type your 2.4 GHz network's password.
The primary 2.4 GHz network you are extending's password should be entered.
Please double-check your password entry before clicking "Next" to avoid having to press RESET and start over.
You'll see the same "Checking the password" page that you saw for the 5 GHz password entry. The "Extended Network details" screen will appear after a brief wait, if you supplied the correct password, as demonstrated in the following step.
It should be noted that this extender does not permit connecting to both extended and extension Wi-Fi networks at the same time. This means that you cannot use the 5 Ghz extension SSID on this extender to expand a 2.4 Ghz network. Only 2.4 GHz primary wireless networks can be configured to repeat using the 2.4 GHz extension SSID. Additionally, a 5 Ghz Wi-Fi network is the only one that the 5 Ghz extension network may broadcast. It would be wonderful if you could "cross wire" the primary networks and extensions operating at 2.4 and 5 GHz. However, a feature like that could make both new users and network administrators confused.
8. Review the data on your extended networks
We've secured our entered passwords by covering them with "pink paint," as you can see. Verify the supplied net data once more to make sure everything is accurate.
By selecting the "Update" option and then adhering to the instructions, you can choose to edit this data (change the SSIDs of the network extensions, for instance).
Alternately, you can decide to completely disregard everything you input during this entire process by selecting "Start Over" and then returning to step 2 to enter everything again.
Tap the "Create Extended Networks" button instead if the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network information shown in the "Extended Network information" screen appears to be accurate. This advances you to the last screen in this Wi-Fi range extender configuration and puts the new wireless networks "on the air."
9. Verify the "Your extension is now configured" message. Continue with the Belkin WiFi Extender Setup Instructions on this screen.
If everything went according to plan, the "Extended Networks Configuration Done" screen will show up after a brief pause, as seen next. The SSIDs, security settings, and passwords for the newly configured extended networks are displayed on this page.
By clicking the "Print Extended Network Information" button, you can print this data.
However, act quickly because this screen expires after around fifteen seconds and disappears along with the temporary network provided by Belkin.setup, which is again only available during setup and is provided by the extender.
10. Verify that your extended networks are currently operational.
This was accomplished by opening the Settings->Wi-Fi screen on our iPad Air, which searches for nearby wireless networks and shows them. Now that this range extender has been properly configured, ours appears as follows.
Then you may connect to any of the "xt" networks and should be able to get the same access as the primary networks, albeit half as quickly.
11. The Belkin WiFi Extender Setup Instructions are complete!
Enjoy. Now your Belkin Wireless Range Extender model is successfully configured.
